Oh Love! Young Love! ...Brisbane Couple Photography/Gold Coast Couple Photography

Brisbane Couple Photography_Swansson

"Oh Love! Young Love!, bound in thy rosy band,

Let sage or cynic prattle as he will,

these hours and only these, redeem life's years of ill."

- Lord Byron

Gosh I love being behind the camera!  It's such a privilege to witness people in all their beauty, and splendour.  And so it is with being able to capture the young, teenage love of Dylan and Rhianne.

It's the stuff that classic romance novels go crazy over!

It's so invigorating and rejuvenating to see how these two young musicians and friends truly embracing and supporting each other's journey,  starting out in life.  I can see how they must have grown together and with it their budding love and confidence.

It was my absolute pleasure to photograph Dylan and Rhianne just being themselves, being in the present and soaking up the last hours of the day, totally captivated by each other.

After an unpredictable start to the session with showers and storm clouds coming over at the first location, the sky eventually broke open, leaving heavy, bruised clouds on the horizon, with a deep pink-purple sky looming above.  A perfect end to this beautiful couple session.

Thanks to Dylan and Rhianne for completely being in the moment, relaxing and trusting.  I can't wait to share the rest of your images soon.... ;)

Oh Love!  Young Love!

Move Over Clark Kent!....Brisbane Individual Portrait Photography/Themed Portraits

Brisbane Individual Portrait_Superman

"Give yourself permission to live a big life.  Step into who you are meant to be.  Stop playing small.

You're meant for greater things."

- Author Uknown

Meet Dylan Swansson, aka Clark Kent, aka Superman.  Pretty hot huh?

Well I'll bet that when he sees his photo for the first time, he won't recognise himself.  It will blow him away, as it blew me away when I had a look at the images I shot from his themed portrait shoot.  I mean, I had a pretty good hunch they'd turn out great.  But I didn't anticipate how much.

I love it when everything comes together, and  when the vision in my head matches the final images!

So why am I so excited?

Well I've known Dylan now since, well...when he was a toddler.  Later, I reconnected with his parents and started to get to know Dylan as a young teenage boy who was, well, on the err...well proportioned side (and very tall).  I've had the pleasure of photographing him as a family friend in the last couple of years and over those years I've got to know Dylan better.  And as any of his family and friends can vouch - he is one of the most amazing, grounded, generous and beautiful young souls one can meet.  He's also an extremely talented and budding young musician.

So when Dylan approached me to do a professional shoot - both individual themed and a couple shoot with his beautiful partner Rhianne,  I was honoured.  I was also intrigued as to the reason he requested to have the 'Superman' themed portrait and asked him why.  And this is what he said...

"that it was about who he was on the inside, and that we should never judge a book by its' cover."

A photo I took of Dylan two years ago at his 16th birthday party, when I was just starting out and learning photography.

A photo I took of Dylan two years ago at his 16th birthday party, when I was just starting out and learning photography.

But you know, what's amazing is how Dylan set out to transform himself.  The last two years I've seen the determination, passion and dedication he has applied to his physical change.  And today...on the weekend just gone, two years after I took the above photo,  I really saw that transformation for what it truly is.

I think what Dylan may not realise, is that the person he says is on the inside - the person he thinks others don't see - the 'persona of Superman' -  has in fact filtered through to the outside, so that others may now see him as he always saw himself. He's projected and created that persona through hard work, belief and dedication.

And I'm so thrilled to have captured the physical results of Dylan's transformation and see what is on the inside reflected outward.  I hope he is thrilled too.

* P.S.  Dylan will see all of his Superman images in the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned for some more photos. Today was just a teaser. ;)

Headshots - Making a First Impression...Actor Headshots/Brisbane Portrait Photography

Over the weekend, I had a ball shooting some photos for Tiffany, who needed some headshots for her university CV.  Prior to the session, I had a chat with Tiffany's mum and in collaboration with Tiffany, we worked out a plan going on what Tiffany had in her wardrobe.  They sent me some pics and we ended up choosing two sets of clothes, and got two different style of images, and took the shots in two different locations.  The above shots were taken outdoors with a lovely bushland setting as the backdrop (my backyard!).

Doesn't Tiffany look just stunning in red?  I am so glad that she chose this red dress as a clothing choice.  As a student of musical theatre, dance, drama and singing, I think not only did her dress add glamour to her look, but genuinely reflected her vibrant personality.

For the second outdoor location, with Tiffany's clothing choices and taking into account Tiffany's personal style, I thought an urban look would suit her well and the above photos taken against a graffiti wall came up a treat.

I think these photos show a real confidence and spunk!

So thanks to Tiffany for being such a great subject and model to work with.  She was very enthusiastic and was a natural in front of the camera and was happy to work with my suggestions.

Tiffany's relaxed approach resulted in stunning photos which she will be able to use again and again to reflect her style, personality and great attitude!

A Golden Wedding Anniversary Surprise....Brisbane Family Photography/Brisbane Family Photographer

Joe & Judy celebrated 50 years marriage on 10th July 2015

Joe & Judy celebrated 50 years marriage on 10th July 2015

A couple of weeks of ago I had the pleasure of  photographing a family photo session.  I was told it was a surprise for my client's parents who would be celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary and they wanted to have all their family with them to help her parent's celebrate it.  It was also possibly the last opportunity to have all their family together in one place.  So this photo session was a little extra special.

The occasion itself went off without a hitch.  Their celebration was organised by a special friend of mine, who also happens to be my aunt and it was held at her place.  Joe and Judy were told it was going to be a BBQ with friends and thought nothing more of it.

Joe and Judy's family were waiting for them, and it was indeed a big surprise for them both. Family from Canada were also live-streamed so they could share their special occasion with their loved ones back home.

Joe requested this particular photo of their wedding rings.

These family photos were part of Joe and Judy's gift to celebrate not only their Golden Wedding Anniversary, but also to celebrate life and their family.   Every member made a special effort to look their best and also to just enjoy, and give their love and support and make this occasion one to be remembered.  Especially for Joe.

But I've included a few select images to give you an idea and wet your appetite just a little. Enjoy! :)

A Mother's Special Birthday Gift..../Gold Coast Family Photography/Brisbane Family Photography

Lisa, Jasmyn & Sharon

Lisa, Jasmyn & Sharon

"We should always love our parents. Sometimes we are busy growing up and we often forget that they are also growing old."

- Author Unknown

The image above of sisters, Lisa, Jasmyn and Sharon is going to look fabulous when I have it custom framed and it's hanging in pride of place on their mother's wall.  And this photo  also happens to be my favourite of this shoot.

The shoot was a culmination of quite a bit of planning, since all three sisters live in different areas.  The purpose of the shoot was so that all three sisters could give their mother a special birthday surprise for her upcoming 70th birthday next month!

What a beautiful gesture, and I wish I was a fly on the wall on that day to see the look on their mother's face.  From what I've been told, she will be surprised and thrilled.

As we become into adults we often forget that our own parents are growing older, as we concentrate on our lives and our own younger families.  If we think of how much our children mean to us as young parents, then how much more meaningful is it then for our parents who are entering their twilight years, thinking about their adult children?

It becomes for us a time to reflect on our parents and what they were like when we were younger.  How much of our upbringing influenced our own lives and the way we look at the world?  How much more do we appreciate them, now that we understand how they must have felt rearing us?  What about the challenges they had but we were never aware because they protected us from the ugly things?   And what lessons can we bring into our adult hood that we learned as children that we can then pass onto our own?

I think this is when we can appreciate them most - as adults with our own unique challenges. And as children who have grown to become parents ourselves, who then truly understand what it is to raise a child or children and become so strongly attached to them.

Gold Coast Family Photography

Chatting to Sharon over the months, as we talked about how to approach the shoot, we talked about her childhood growing up on a farm, her sisters and her parents.  I got to know a little of their family and of their personalities and I was looking forward to meeting Sharon's sisters. They all sounded so different.

Funny how we can all be raised in the same household, yet grow to become individuals with such different tastes, values and lives.  I wonder how aging parents view the differences in their children.

So with all of our busy adult lives, I think it's wonderful that three grown up sisters took the time to plan something so special for their mother's 70th Birthday.  Photo sessions can also be a great opportunity for us to reflect on our lives and our families, and to appreciate the gift of our families.

For Lisa, Sharon and Jasmyn, not only was the photo session an opportunity to give a special gift to their mother, but also an opportunity for them to gift themselves.  To be pampered and to look and feel beautiful.

Because you know, as woman, we never do that enough!  We need to be kinder to ourselves ladies.
