Sometimes I wonder about writing for my audience...you. Yes, I'm a photographer, and yes, I write about all manner of things photography, but I'm also a mother and even though a lot of my thoughts are consumed with the passion of photography, it's important that as a photographer and artist that you fully engage with life and seek to spend time in other areas. Your experiences are weaved into and throughout your work and the images you create. It helps you relate to others and to see their point-of-view.
So what does being a mother have to do with photography and to do with you? Well photography has everything to do with being a mother and you!
You see, one of reasons I am so passionate about photography is that I believe that everyone has a story to tell. Yes, I know...sounds cliched! But it's true! However simple those stories are, in most instances they are the most powerful ones to tell.
I think that some of the most profound moments in my life (I'm teary as I write this) have been since I've been a mother. Some of those moments have been challenging ones, and others have been at those beautiful, and tender times with my child that make my heart well up with so much love, I feel I could burst.
And it's those tender moments that as a photographer I want to capture, because when all is said and done...those are the ones that stay in your heart forever.
For me, revealing how I feel about being a mum and the love I feel for my children, people and life in general is cathartic and I know that there are many of you who feel deeply but don't have the words to express how you feel. And that's where photography and what I do and how I do it comes into play.
Personally for me, when I can capture those moments with my daughter that are special only to me, it makes me feel all those tender moments over again. I get to relive them over and over and I suspect I will continue to do that as I get older and reflect. It's a way that I can hold onto those times that are gone in the blink of an eye.
So what moments with your children and family make your heart melt the most? I hope you'll share them with me.
I'll leave you with some more pics of Miss Phil and Duffus Dawg, this time just after they've awoken.
